Finishing the Among Us Crewmates Christmas Hats C2C Crochet Afghan

It’s time to finish up this super fun and festive afghan. Do you have someone in mind that you want to gift it to? Are you keeping it for yourself. I know we’re WAAAY past Christmas, but hey! There’s always next Christmas.

I hope you’ve enjoyed crocheting this quirky little blanket. I’m kind of partial to the Twinkling Lights Hat and the Elf Ears Hat. Which ones are your favorites?

Preparing the Christmas Hats Blocks

Okay, there are a couple of things we need to do to prepare the blocks and panels to be sewn together.

You should have already edged each block with a row of single crochet. If you have not done this, do it now. The single crochet row makes it easier to match up stitches and sew the blocks together. The single crochet row should be done in the same color as the background of each block – LIGHT TAUPE for all blocks in this afghan.

For the joining and edging, you will need:

Hobby Lobby I love This Yarn 7.0 oz skeins in the following colors (amounts are approximations):

  • Light Taupe — .6 oz (for joining)
  • Red — 5.5 oz (border)
  • White — 5.6 oz (border)
  • Jelly Bean — 5.7 oz (border)

~ Size H/8/5.0 mm Crochet Hook or whatever hook you used to crochet the blocks and panels.

Joining the Among Us Crewmates Christmas Hats C2C Crochet Afghan

Among Us Christmas Hats Afghan Layout

Begin by laying your blocks out in whatever order you wish. I alternated the base color of the crewmates: red and green. Then I tried to balance the look with the larger and heavier-looking hats (the Santa hat and the Antlers) on opposite sides of the blanket. It’s not perfect, but it works for me.

So here’s the final layout. Feel free to switch it up if you like!

Row 1: Santa Hat, Candy Canes, Christmas Tree

Row 2: Twinkling Lights, Elf Ears, Antlers

Assembling the Among Us Crewmates Christmas Hats C2C Crochet Afghan

You may join your blocks together by whatever method you prefer. I have used either a basic whip stitch or a flat slip stitch join. For this afghan, I used a flat slip stitch. If you have another method you prefer, feel free to use it.

Join the rows together first. Once they’re sewn, join the two rows together.

The Crewmates Christmas Hats Afghan Borders

With the large scale of the crewmates, I felt that this afghan could support a robust border. I wanted something that made a statement. I chose to use a very textural bobble stitch border.

I used the same size crochet hook as the rest of the afghan and the border ended up just a little wavy. I don’t mind as it’s not excessive, but if you think it will bother you, consider using a size G/7/4.5 mm crochet hook instead.

BOBBLE (BO): Yarn over (YO). Insert hook into the indicated stitch. YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through 2 stitches. (2 loops on hook) *YO and insert hook into the same stitch. YO and pull up a loop. YO and pull through 2 stitches.* (3 loops on hook) Repeat from * to * 2 more times. (5 loops on hook) YO and pull through all 5 loops. Chain (CH) 1. DO NOT count the closing chains as stitches. You will not crochet into the chain stitches in Row 2.

NOTE: For Row 1, you want the final stitch before each corner space to be a bobble. You may have to fudge a little to make it work out if the stitch count isn’t perfect.

ROW 1: Working on the wrong side of the afghan, in any corner stitch join RED with a standing single crochet (SC). CH 2, then work a SC1 in the same stitch. *In the next stitch, BO1. In the next stitch SC1.* Work from * to * to the end of the side, ending with a BO1 (see NOTE). In the corner stitch work (SC1, CH2, SC1). Complete the next three sides in the same manner. Slip stitch (SL ST) to join to the first SC. Do not cut.

ROW 2: Continuing in RED, CH1 and turn to the right side of the afghan. SC1 in each BO and SC from the previous rows. DO NOT stitch into the closing chains on top of the bobbles. Work (SC1, CH2, SC1) in each CH2 corner space. SL ST to join to the first SC.

ROWS 3-4: Repeat Row 1 (wrong side) and Row 2 (right side) in WHITE, starting in any CH2 corner space from the row below.

ROWS 5-6: Repeat Row 1 (wrong side) and Row 2 (right side) in JELLY BEAN, starting in any CH2 corner space from the row below.

Et voila! There you have it. One super snuggly, super whimsical, and super humorous Christmas Hats afghan.

Either my tension was a little looser than normal or the Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn is slightly thicker than the yarn I normally use. This blanket ended up a little larger than expected, but that’s not a bad thing! I love wrapping up in it.

Finished size: 72 inches x 74 inches
