FOR FRODO! I am super excited for the new block of the month afghan for 2023! Okay, I admit, I get excited about every new project. I love to design, I love to create, and I love to make things for the people I love. This year’s project, with yarn support from Lion Brand Yarn, is The Fellowship of the Ring C2C Crochet Afghan. This may be the first time that I’ve really considered making two sample afghans. I love the movies myself and I have a LOTR-obsessed daughter. It’ll be a little bit of a wrench letting this blanket go, but from the first day I started designing it, I’ve always intended that it would go to HDawg.

The Fellowship of the Ring Block of the Month Afghan will feature 9 blocks:

In addition there will be two border panels:

One block or panel will be released each month from now through November. Once we’ve finished all the blocks, we’ll finish things up with The Fellowship of the Ring C2C Crochet Afghan—Joining and Edging where I’ll show you what I did to edge each block and the blanket itself.

Let’s get started!

C2C Crochet Method

I used the standard Corner to Corner (C2C) crochet technique for this afghan.  I crochet with worsted weight yarn and I use an H hook.  To brush up on C2C crochet, click over to my Crochet Videos page.

Lion Brand Yarn has partnered with me on this afghan and has provided the yarn for this project. I chose to use Vanna’s Choice Yarn. This may be a “basic yarn,” but it’s a soft basic yarn and I love stitching with it. I designed this blanket with the Vanna’s Choice color palette in mind. I chose to use Dusty Green, Chocolate Brown, and Mustard for the basis of this blanket. They give this afghan a nice earthy feel, which is perfect for The Lord of the Rings.

Definitely click on over to Lion Brand Yarn and take a look at their products. If you purchase after using my link, I make a small commission which does not affect your price, but helps to keep my website running. Many thanks if you do!

I hope you love stitching this blanket. It is always a delight to see favorite characters come to life under my hook: Aragorn, Gimli, Frodo, Boromir, and all the members of the Fellowship.

We’ll start off the blanket with Gandalf. Look for him next week!

Stitch happy!

I’m very excited to make this LOTR blanket!! could you tell me the dimensions of the blocks and finished blanket?

    • Lucinda

You’re right, I should have included that information. Each block is about 17.5 inches on a side. The final blanket is about 57 inches wide X 73 inches long.
