The Fellowship of the Ring Afghan — Peregrin (Pippin) Took

Peregrin “Pippin” Took and his best friend and cousin Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck join Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee as they journey from the Shire to protect the One Ring from the Black Riders. Together, the four hobbits join The Fellowship of the Ring and become important to the Fate of Middle Earth.

Pippin and Merry become separated from the other members of the Fellowship when they are carried off by Uruk-hai who believe they carry the One Ring. They escape into Fanghorn Forest and meet the Ent Treebeard. They rejoin Gandalf, Aragorn, and other members of the Fellowship at the fall of Sarumon at Orthanc.

Pippin enjoys a good joke, but is also reckless and impulsive. He frequently acts without thought and occasionally gets into trouble because of it. Because Pippin is curious about the Palantir, he looks into it without understanding what it can do. He sees Sauron who believes that it is Pippin who carries the One Ring. Pippin does not reveal the any vital information, though his many imprudent actions earn him Gandalf’s reprimand, “Fool of a Took!”

Peregrin Took matures throughout the series, finding his courage, and is the eighth block in The Fellowship of the Ring C2C Crochet Afghan.
