A Gingerbread Cookie Christmas

Wow, just wow, I love this new afghan! The idea for this super fun, super sweet Gingerbread Cookie Lane C2C Crochet Christmas Afghan has been bouncing around in my skull for a few months. I knew that I wanted to do a Christmas cookie design, but I hadn’t really formulated how that would look. Then I thought about all the gingerbread houses my family put together when I was a kid and all the extras we would add to the wintery scene. We’d make marshmallow snowmen, and cookie and candy cane sleds, and gumdrop trees. All those family memories and the gingerbread houses we couldn’t touch until after Christmas were the inspiration for this blanket.

Unfortunately, my own kids don’t have quite so many memories of gingerbread house making. Since my mom made all of our gingerbread houses from scratch, I guess I felt I had to do the same. After a couple of times of hours and hours mixing and cutting and baking—and the cleanup!—and then seeing my kids get bored of decorating our gingerbread house after only about 10 minutes, I swore I would never make one again. And I haven’t and that’s okay! I have other Christmas tradition priorities. I can now enjoy my annual gingerbread house in the form of this cozy blanket.

I’m not going to lie. This pattern is not for the faint of heart. Those candy cane edges on the house and the Christmas lights and snowflakes make for a lot of color changes and ends to tuck in. You won’t regret giving the Gingerbread Cookie Lane Blanket a go, but it is definitely not a beginner pattern.

Curl up in this fabulous afghan with a cup of hot cocoa and a copy of A Christmas Carol while waiting for Santa. It doesn’t get any better than that!

The border is the icing on the cake! Or on the cookie! It makes me think of traditional zigzag frosting on gingerbread cookies. It is the perfect way to edge this Gingerbread Cookie Lane blanket!

So much cuteness! Which is your favorite panel? I love all the detail on the gingerbread house. But I also love the little Santa boy and elf girl. Or how about the two skating? I can’t decide. Whichever you love, this blanket is going to be a standout in your holiday home.

Enjoy!
