The Ultimate Doctor Who Afghan — The TARDIS
The TARDIS—acronym for “Time and Relative Dimension In Space—is a cross between a time machine and a spaceship. The TARDIS gives the Doctor the ability to travel through time and space by incorporating Time Lord technology. It is the ultimate symbol of the Doctor. As such, the TARDIS is the perfect block for the center of The Doctor Is In! The Ultimate Doctor Who Mini C2C Crochet Afghan.
The TARDIS is shaped as an obsolete police box. It has a chameleon circuit that allows it to blend in with a given culture or landscape. The chameleon circuit broke and the TARDIS has been a police box ever since. It seems the Doctor is not in a hurry to fix the circuit and has become accustomed of its current look. Certainly fans are fond of it and now associate a police box with the TARDIS more than a police box!
Because of the Time Lord technology used to create the TARDIS, it has basically a limitless number of rooms. This is the reason that when most of the Doctor’s companions see inside for the the first time, they exclaim “It’s bigger on the inside!”
This is the largest panel in the afghan and has the most color changes. This is definitely the most complicated block in this blanket. It is so worth the effort! Just pull out a six-foot table (or two of them!) to line up all of your skeins and bobbins on. I had over 30 bobbins attached for some of the rows. Just be tenacious and stitch one row, one square at a time and you’ll get through it.

The TARDIS Mini C2C Crochet Block
NOTE: Remember that this afghan is intended to be stitched using mini corner-to-corner crochet. If you need to learn mini C2C, click to the intro post for a linked video from Repeat Crafter Me.
Materials

~ Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn 4.5 oz skeins in the following colors (amounts are approximations):
- Royal Blue — 9.1 ounces
- Pale Grey — 7.5 ounces
- Black — 6.3 ounces
- White — 2.2 ounces
~ Size H Crochet Hook or hook needed to achieve gauge (see Gauge for C2C Afghans)
~ Yarn Needle
Crochet the square starting from the bottom right corner of the chart using mini C2C. Row-by-row written instructions are below.
After you finish crocheting the block, crochet one row of single crochet in KELLY GREEN around the entire panel. I crocheted 2 SC stitches across each mini C2C square, basically, one in the middle of the square and one in between squares around the entire panel, with 3 SC stitches in each corner.
Make sure the edging does not pull the block tight or, conversely, cause the edge to ripple. You want the panel to lie flat when you are finished. You may need to adjust how you stitch around the block for your own tension. Just be consistent in how you work the SC around each block and panel in the blanket.
