The Bookcase Afghan for Bibliophiles
I can honestly say that I have loved the creative process for every blanket I have designed. I especially love creating afghans for friends and family.
- I loved creating the Emoji Afghan for my son
- I loved creating the Brick Faces Afghan for my daughter
- I loved creating the Kokeshi Nativity Afghan for my parents
- I loved creating the Disco Minions Afghan for my daugther-in-law
- I loved creating the Fruit Pi Afghan for a friend
- I loved creating the No Prob-LLama Afghan for my brother’s family
- I loved creating the Harry Potter Gryffindors Afghan for my readers
- I loved creating the Fellowship of the Ring Afghan for my daughter
But this Bookcase Afghan is all for me! I am a chain reader. As soon as I finish one book, I pick up the next. And please don’t bother me while I am reading; I am liable to be irritable if you pull me from the world I am living in vicariously.
I designed this stunning blanket with yarn support from Lion Brand Yarn. I chose to use Vanna’s Choice yarn. It is such an easy yarn to work with and comes in great colors. And for blankets that get well used, a washable acrylic is always my first choice.

If you’re like me and love books, this afghan is for you! To keep it interesting, so it’s not just a rectangle full of smaller rectangles, I added decorative items to each shelf. This afghan features:
- Decorative Vases
- Succulents
- Travel Photos
- And a Goldfish
Take a look at some of the details. I love them all!

The Bookcase Afghan measures 51 inches X 70 inches when crocheted at the gauge suggested in the pattern.
It is absolutely long enough to curl up under with a good book. It’s perfect with the colors and yarn listed, OR bust your yarn stash and make the blanket uniquely your own.
The pattern includes printable charts and row-by-row instructions. It also includes border instructions and approximate yarn requirements. Please remember that if you choose different yarn than suggested or crochet at a different gauge, the yarn estimates will be off.

Isn’t this blanket spectacular! I did a lot of research before designing this afghan. I always strive to make my patterns unforgettable and wholly unique. You’ll find a couple of much simpler corner-to-corner crochet bookcase options, but I think you’ll agree—this is the ultimate bibliophile’s afghan.
I’d love to hear what you think. Let me know in the comments if there is anything you would have added to this amazing project.
