The Order of the Phoenix Afghan Crochet Along

Yes! It’s time for another crochet along and am I excited about this one! I love the whole wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter and his friends so that’s where we’re headed. This blanket does not feature Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, nor Ron Weasley (spoiler: they’ll be showing up next year), but rather members of the Order of the Phoenix.

I have been designing the blocks for this blanket for months and crocheting them for almost as long. As with my other crochet alongs, one block will be released each week. I may double up on a couple of weeks and release two blocks, so we can finish this afghan in time for Christmas. Once all the blocks are stitched, we’ll finish things up with the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix C2C Crochet Afghan—Joining and Edging.

This crochet along will feature 12 FREE Order of the Phoenix blocks! Dumbledore? Gotta have him! McGonagall? Definitely! Severus Snape? Couldn’t do without! The full list of blocks and their release order is as follows:

There are, of course other members of the Order of the Phoenix: Sturgis Podmore, Arabella Figg, Dedalus Diggle, Emmaline Vance, Hestia Jones, Bill and Charlie Weasley, and Fleur Delacore, to name some of them. I chose the ones I did as being most significant in the plot of the stories, though you could make a case for other members as well.

Each block measures about 17.5 inches by 17.5 inches when stitched at the same gauge I used. The finished blanket measures 58 inches wide by 76 inches long.

C2C Crochet Method

I used the standard Corner to Corner (C2C) crochet technique for this afghan. I crochet with worsted weight yarn and I use an H hook. To brush up on C2C crochet, click over to my Crochet Videos page.

The Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix C2C Crochet Afghan Materials

Instructions and materials are for a 12-block afghan and simple puff stitch border.
