Are you ever astonished by where your creative ideas come from? Do ideas come from things you see? How about from smells or sounds? What about from memories? Colors? People? The answer of course to all of these is “YES!” I love to examine my thought processes or just watch as things marinate in my mind until a fully formed idea comes out of it.
It still makes me laugh to remember what inspired me to make The Christmas Cabin C2C Crochet Afghan. Believe it or not, it was a kitchen towel.
Yes. A kitchen towel.
A friend had given me the towel a few years ago. It used to be just a towel. When I pulled out my Christmas decorations last winter, this towel was in there. I saw it and thought, “That would be a great afghan!”
This is the towel that started this pattern journey for me.
Though the towel was the primary inspiration for this afghan, there was a secondary source of inspiration—the song “Colorado Christmas” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I love “a quiet Christmas morning in the Colorado snow!”
This Christmas Cabin C2C Crochet Afghan exudes all the warmth and peace and hominess of a Christmas afternoon spent quietly at home.

I think this is a beautiful blanket for Christmas! Some day we hope to retire to the mountains and build a cabin! Gives me hope!
I’m glad! We’re not quite in the mountains either, but at 5800 ft. we’re rubbing shoulders with them. I love seeing the snowy mountains in winter.
This says free pattern but I can not find the link to the free only the Etsy.
Thank you for your interest in this Christmas afghan. This pattern is not a free pattern. I’m guessing you found a Pinterest pin that first directed you to another site which then linked to this page. Someone has stolen my images and created the erroneous pins which falsely claim that this is a free pattern. I am sorry that you were misled.
Lucinda, it is so understandable for this to be a paid pattern; your response to the question was worded so nicely and perfectly. Thank you for a beautiful pattern and such a cool back story about your inspiration!
