The Fellowship of the Ring Afghan — Gimli

Gimli, son of Gloin, is one of those called to the Council of Elrond at Rivendell. He joins the Fellowship there, perhaps, in part, because he doesn’t fully trust the elves and wants to oversee the fate of the One Ring. He becomes good friends with Aragorn and even Legolas, choosing to stand beside them in their many travels and battles.

Gimli convinces the Fellowship to travel under the Misty Mountains into the Mines of Moria when the snowy passes above defeat them. Gimli is upset to learn that his cousin Balin and all the dwarves who attempted to reclaim Moria, were killed when they “delved too greedily and too deep.”

Gimli, though somewhat irascible by nature, is also loyal and staunch. He is the fifth block in The Fellowship of the Ring C2C Crochet Afghan.

~ Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn 3.5 oz skeins in the following colors (amounts are approximations):

Rust — 2.9 ounces
Dusty Green (light green) — 2.6 ounces
Beige — 1.5 ounces
Chocolate (brown) — 1.2 ounces
Silver Grey (light grey) — .3 ounce
White — .1 ounce
Black — .1 ounce

~ Size H Crochet Hook or hook needed to achieve gauge (see Gauge for C2C Afghans)

~ Yarn Needle

Crochet the square starting from the bottom right corner of the chart. Row-by-row written instructions are below.

After you finish crocheting the block, crochet one row of single crochet in DUSTY GREEN around the entire block. See Adding a Single Crochet Edge around a Finished C2C Block for how I crochet around the edge.
