Crocheting Harry Potter-themed characters has been so much fun! I wish that I could pull them all together into a treasury. I just have no idea how to get such a book published. I’ve tried a couple of avenues, but no response. I think it would be awesome to create a Weasleys afghan, a Hogwarts teachers afghan, and even a Triwizard Tournament champions blanket. For now, here’s one last hurrah for Harry Potter before I move on to other themes—the Hogwarts House Ghosts Afghan.
These ghosts were so fun to design! I hope that you love this lapghan as much as I do!
The Hogwarts House Ghosts Afghan features 4 blocks:
- Nearly Headless Nick (Gryffindor)—AKA Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington
- The Bloody Baron (Slytherin)
- The Fat Friar (Hufflepuff)
- The Grey Lady (Ravenclaw)—AKA Helena Ravenclaw
And as a bonus block:
Moaning Myrtle, of course, was not a House ghost, but she is so important to the story, that I just had to design her. I mean really, how many times does Harry Potter and his friends visit the girls’ bathroom? And then Myrtle comes to see Harry in the prefects’ bathroom. And, of course, she clues Harry in to where the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is. I think Moaning Myrtle would make a fantastic pillow!
The Hogwarts House Ghosts Crochet Along
Okay. So here’s how it’s going to work. One block will be released roughly each week. I am still posting the Harry Potter Gryffindors C2C Crochet Afghan blocks the first week of each month, and I’ve got a couple of patterns to release, so these blocks will be worked in around those. We will definitely finish this little blanket before Halloween.
Once we’ve completed all the blocks, we’ll finish things off with a grey ombre moss stitch border in Hogwarts House Ghosts C2C Crochet Afghan—Joining and Edging.
Each block measures about 17 inches on a side when stitched at the same gauge I used. And the blanket measures 44 inches square.

C2C Crochet Method
I used the standard Corner to Corner (C2C) crochet technique for this afghan. I crochet with worsted weight yarn and I use an H hook. To brush up on C2C crochet, click over to my Crochet Videos page.

IMPORTANT: I weighed all my yarn before and after crocheting to give you the best approximation for the amount used. Please remember, differences in stitching tension, chosen blocks, the number of blocks crocheted, and the brand of yarn selected will yield different results.
