“By Gryffindor, the bravest were Prized far beyond the rest.”

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Brave at heart. We are finally here at the last afghan panel to crochet for the Harry Potter Gryfffindors C2C Crochet Afghan. And with this last panel, we are acknowledging one of the character traits of Gryffindors that is worth celebrating—their bravery. Though Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are often found in circumstances that require bravery, one of my favorite brave characters is Neville Longbottom.

We know Neville shows his bravery when he stands up to the main trio when they are sneaking out at night and earns 10 points to Gryffindor from Dumbledore for so doing. But he previously showed his bravery when he took on Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle single-handedly during a quidditch match while Ron was fighting Draco Malfoy. In each case, he knew that he was standing up to people who were tougher, smarter, and/or more magically powerful, but he did it anyway. He was afraid, but acted anyway. That is what bravery is.

This Brave at Heart C2C Crochet Border Panel is pretty straightforward. You’ll notice that it has 77 squares instead of the 75 squares that are the equivalent of 3 blocks. This is because I am allowing for the black sashing that we’ll be adding later around each square. If you don’t want sashing around each block (not recommended), then leave off one column on the right and left of the panel.

Next month we’ll crochet the final border panel in the Harry Potter Gryffindors C2C Crochet Afghan.
