“The common room was packed and noisy. Everyone was eating the food that had been sent up. Hermione, however, stood alone by the door, waiting for them. There was a very embarrassed pause. Then, none of them looking at each other, they all said “Thanks,” and hurried off to get plates.

“But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.”

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Harry Potter may be the title character in the book series, but there is no way he could have defeated Voldemort without the help of his best friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. I love all the strong female characters in the Harry Potter books. My favorites, though, are Minerva McGonagall and Hermione Granger.

Hermione is intelligent, dedicated, and not overly concerned with typical teenage drama. She is described as the “brightest witch of her age” and is always top in her classes, with the occasional exception of Defense Against the Dark Arts.

It is Hermione that solves some of the most difficult puzzles that she, Harry, and Ron face. She solves the potion logic puzzle that allows Harry to face Professor Quirrell. She is the first to realize the monster from the Chamber of Secrets is a basilisk. And it is Hermione that deduces that Professor Lupin is a werewolf.

And though Row Weasley bows out for a brief stint, Hermione stands by Harry the entire time. It is because of this that Hermione gets pride of place next to Harry in the Gryffindor Block of the Month Afghan.

Hermione looks great with her light brown hair and brown eyes. You’ve got a month to stitch her up before the third block—Ron Weasley—comes out. See you in March!

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I’ve been out of the country. I don’t have a block such as the one you suggest. I chose to do people from Harry’s year and I have an Order of the Phoenix afghan as well. Other designers may have a wand option. Try searching for “wand c2c crochet” or “Harry Potter c2c crochet”. If you want to design your own you can try designing on graph paper or use an online program such as Stitch Fiddle. Each of my blocks is 25 squares by 25 squares.
