“Seconds later, or so it seemed to Harry, he was awakened by what sounded like cannon fire as the door burst open. Sitting bolt upright, he heard the rasp of the curtains being pulled back: The dazzling sunlight seemed to poke him hard in both eyes. Shielding them with one hand, he groped hopelessly for his glasses with the other.

“‘Wuzzgoinon?’

“‘We didn’t know you were here already!’ said a loud and excited voice, and he received a sharp blow to the top of his head.

“‘Ron, don’t hit him!’ said a girl’s voice reproachfully.

“Harry’s hand found his glasses and he shoved them on, though the light was so bright he could hardly see anyway. A long, looming shadow quivered in front of him for a moment; he blinked and Ron Weasley came into focus, grinning down at him.”

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Ron Weasley—tall, gangly, and freckled—is Harry Potter’s first friend his age in the wizarding world. Ron stands by Harry through seven years of magical education and fear of the most dangerous dark wizard of all time—Voldemort. Ronald Weasley is the third block in the Harry Potter Gryffindor C2C Crochet Block of the Month Afghan.

After meeting Ron on the first Hogwarts Express ride, Harry and he become fast friends. Ron is maybe not the most talented wizard, nor the most intelligent wizard, but he is extremely loyal to Harry. Yes, he gets jealous of the attention lavished on Harry, and yes, he walks out a couple of times, but, as Dumbledore knew, Ron always wanted to come back.

For this Ron Weasley C2C Crochet Block, I opted not to give him freckles. I made the pattern with and without freckles (and I’ve given the Brick Face Daughter and the Brick Face Son blocks freckles), but with the narrowness of Ron’s face, the freckles overwhelmed the rest of his features. Feel free to color in some freckles and see what you think. I’m all about making a pattern yours!
