“The door swung open at once. A tall, black-haired witch in emerald-green robes stood there. She had a very stern face and Harry’s first thought was that this was not someone to cross.”

Next up in the Order of the Phoenix C2C Crochet Afghan is Minerva McGonagall. McGonagall teaches Transfiguration, is the head of Gryffindor House, and is the deputy head-mistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She is strict, but fair. She may not come across as affectionate, but she still feels deeply.

My favorite moment with Professor McGonagall is in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger come back to Hogwarts to destroy the final horcruxes and face Voldemort. One of the death eaters—Amycus Carrow—tells McGonagall that he and his sister had been informed that Harry might come back and try to get into Ravenclaw Tower. When she hears this, McGonagall says with pride, “Why would Harry Potter try to get inside Ravenclaw Tower? Potter belongs in my House!”

This block was a tough one to design. I can’t even tell you how many versions of Minerva McGonagall I went through: with a bun, without a bun, with a hat, without a hat. They all looked ridiculous. My daughter HDawg gets full credit for McGonagall’s final hair style. I love it when my kids step in and improve my work! She based it on Maggie Smith’s look during the Battle of Hogwarts in the final movie installment.

I love McGonagall! She is one of my favorite characters in the books and I am so thrilled at how this block turned out. Very distinguished! See you next week for Severus Snape!
