These are so easy to make and require very few supplies.

You’ll need the following:

I like to use metallic purple heavy weight card stock for my boxes that I purchase from a local paper supply store. It gives a very magical feel to the finished boxes. Since it is hard to see the printed lines on the dark purple, I will use a light lavender card stock for most of the photos in this tutorial.

You’ll notice that there are several optional supplies. You can make these without the embossing, but why? I like to add some metallic bling to the boxes; there’s much more visual appeal with the optional embossing.

Harry Potter Chocolate Frog Box Instructions

To begin, print the Chocolate Frog Box Template onto your card stock. The template includes a large box and a small box. The large one is perfect if you want to make chocolate frogs to put inside them and give as gifts or if you want to make ornaments for a large tree. The small one is great for ornaments for a 3-foot tree.

Cut on all the dotted lines. The solid lines are for folding. There is one exception; there is one solid line on the edge of the box that needs to be cut. Oops.

Next, fold all the solid lines. Since you want all of the printed lines to end up inside the box, make sure you are folding correctly. Once everything is folded, your unfinished box should look like this.

If you want to emboss frogs on the box, now is the time.

Press the stamp into the embossing ink. Stamp it onto the box. I like to have it crossing over a fold. Just be sure not to stamp it on any part of the box that will be hidden inside when the box is glued.

Place the box on a clean sheet of paper. Sprinkle embossing powder over the stamped frog.

Shake off the excess powder onto the clean paper. The excess powder can be poured back into the powder container for reuse.

Examine your powdered frog. If there are any stray, loose granules of powder, you can try to gently blow them off or use a small paint brush to lift them carefully away. Any powder left on your box will melt onto the box where it is.

Turn on your embossing tool. These heat really quickly so you don’t need to preheat it. When it is blowing hot air, hold it a couple of inches from your design and move it around until the entire design is melted.

Don’t hold the gun in one place too long as you can warp the cardstock. Pretty slick! And it just adds so much to the box. Aren’t you glad you did it?

Now it’s time to glue. Glue all the small tabs on the inside of the adjoining sides.

For the top of the box, glue the free triangle under the adjoining triangle to form a pentagonal pyramid shape. Isn’t that cool!

If you’re making boxes, then you’re finished! How easy is that? Print, cut, fold, emboss, glue. No sweat.

Harry Potter Chocolate Frog Box Ornaments

To turn a box into an ornament, punch small holes on either side of the apex of the box. The apex is the point opposite the edge piece that connects the top and bottom of the box. I use this hole punch that punches holes much smaller than the standard hole punch.

small hole punch

First, open up the box and punch holes in the apex of the lid of the box.

Next, close the box and use a pencil to mark a dot through the holes onto the bottom of the box.

Open the box again and punch the holes on the pencil marks. When you close the box again the punched holes should align.

Close enough.

Threading the cord through is a little tricky. Cut a six-inch piece of cord. Starting from inside the bottom of the box, thread it through both holes.

Next, insert the ends of the cord in the holes in the lid from the inside of the box.

As you pull the cord tight, close the box, making sure the lid completely covers the bottom of the box.

Tie a simple know near the ends of the cord and trim, if desired.

Isn’t that cute? And super fast.
